Data usage

My grandson played Hopy games today. As far as I know it is flash games. 1gig data has been used within 8 hours. Could this be? I play World of Warcraft all day and uses 200-300mb. Does not make any sense to me. And no, he sit right next to me, only 7 years old, he did not surf the net or watched movies. Just played that one game.
