Latest Flash 12 installed on Mac OS X 10.9.1 causes failure "Flash out-of-date" msg from any site?

I am on Mac OS x 10.9.1.  I downloaded/installed latest Adobe Flash 12, and verified via "check" but every site trying to use Flash fails now with Flash out-of-date message and prompts me to download the version I already downloaded.  Help please
